About Me

Languages have fascinated me ever since I was a little girl because they are the gateway to other worlds. Connecting people with different languages and cultures is essential to make sure these worlds do not just coexist but interact with each other. This is and always has been my calling!

To turn this passion into my profession, I studied Language, Culture, Translation at FTSK Germersheim (University of Mainz), where I learned the craft of translation and developed a fine sense for linguistic and cultural nuances. While pursuing my bachelor’s degree, I also discovered how fascinating interpreting is. Going on to study Conference Interpreting at Heidelberg University was a logical step for me. Of course, the best way to learn a foreign language is by spending time in the countries where it is spoken, so I polished my language skills by spending one semester abroad at the University of Nottingham (UK) and one at the University of Salamanca (Spain).

As a conference interpreter and translator based in Heidelberg, I was at my clients' disposal for assignments in Germany, Europe and even around the world. In addition to my expertise in languages and communication, I was a problem solver and service provider. As such, my repertoire included a broad range of services and competences that complement each other and form a unified whole.

Currently, I am the coordinator of the Digital Science Center (DiSC) of the University of Innsbruck. Therefore I have put my interpreting and translating activities on hold.

My customer base comprises civil society organizations and international companies from the automotive, energy and digital sectors as well as lawyers, notaries and authorities. Please understand that I do not publicly disclose my customers – I hold confidentiality and data privacy in high esteem.

To make sure I can offer you the best quality at all times, I embrace life-long learning and continuous professional development. As a member of the German Federal Association of Interpreters and Translators (BDÜ), I am part of the large community of language experts in Germany. This means I can tap into an extensive network of colleagues and take advantage of numerous training opportunities.

Translation means transferring written documents from one language into another. Whether it is a newspaper article, a business website or a technical manual: Translation requires a high level of precision as well as a superb command of language and style. A translation should not only convey the core messages of the original, but all its details and nuances. And of course, it should be correct in terms of terminology, spelling and grammar.

I offer translations from English and Spanish into German and

Interpreting is the oral translation of the spoken word from one language into another. Interpreters ensure smooth communication between parties who do not speak the same language. To master this activity, the interpreter must have an extremely high level of concentration and be quick to grasp all relevant information. After all, the message to be conveyed must be understood, processed and expressed in another language in a matter of seconds.

If you are hosting a multilingual event, detailed planning and coordinating with all stakeholders well ahead of time is key to its success. To make sure you know what to keep in mind when interpreters are involved, the Association of Conference Interpreters (VKD) has published a short video. It shows you how interpreters work and what the different stages of an interpreting assignment are.

Depending on the type, purpose and size of the event, different modes of interpreting are possible. I am happy to advise you on which mode best meets your requirements. On request, I also tend to all organizational matters, e.g., arranging a team of interpreters, distributing the preparation material and even renting booths and conference equipment. I can also translate any conference-related material prior to the event. Let me handle the communication so you can fully concentrate on being a host.

Modes of Interpreting

Simultaneous interpreting: In simultaneous mode, the interpreter listens to a speech and speaks almost at the same time. As this is a cognitively very demanding activity, this mode requires that two interpreters – or for lengthy events, three interpreters – work together. They work from a sound-proof booth, listening to the speaker via headphones and reformulating what they hear in another language with minimal delay. Today, this is the most frequent form of interpreting. It is also the most efficient and least time-consuming. It is used during sessions at international organizations such as the UN or the EU, for example.

Whispering/chuchotage: Whispering is a variant of simultaneous interpreting and is only used when just a few people need interpreting services during an event. In that case, the interpreters sit behind the attendees and interpret for them with a hushed voice. By way of alternative, they may also use tour guide equipment with a microphone and headphones, which comes in handy when interpreting plant tours, for example.

Consecutive interpreting: When interpreting consecutively, the speaker gives a short speech in the source language or splits a long speech into small chunks. The interpreter renders the complete speech or the individual chunks in the target language after the speaker has finished. The interpreter uses a special note-taking technique in order to ensure the interpretation contains all the information from the original speech. This mode is mainly used for formal occasions (e.g. dinners) and takes more time than simultaneous interpretation, but requires no additional technology.

Liaison interpreting: This is a special form of consecutive interpreting in which two or more parties are interpreted while they are engaged in a dialog. The interpreter takes no or only a few notes to make the conversation flow better. That is why this mode is especially suitable for contract negotiations, but also for appointments with the authorities and visits to the doctor.

Server log files
